Character Development/ Elements of a Story 9.12.11
Character Development:
Character development is basically how an author “develops” (MAKES) a character. They do this by listing the following:
· Looks
· Talent
· Ambition
· Secret
· Bff
· Worst enemy
· What do they carry with them
· Lost
· Name
· Act?
Tell about the character.
By listing these things, a reader gets a sense of how a character acts and who they truly are with out the author directly saying it.
Elements of a Story (uses to predict the plot and influences op. on character)
· Plot: order of events that happen in the story. Kind of like the map of a story.
· Setting: were a story takes place and or the era that the story is in.
· Character: the people. Each one has its own personality; the people who make the story.
· Conflict: the problem. The issue that the characters have to solve.
· Theme: over al idea, moral or message.
NOTE: the author uses all these things and more to influence the opinion of character. The setting helps you imagine were you are for example; in summer I would like to read a novel that takes place in Florida; and in winter I would like to read a novel that takes place in New York. The author makes you have an opinion on a character without directly telling you how to feel.

Middle School
Middle school will probably be one of the most important years of your life. You lose and find yourself. You learn the pros and cons of living in this world. You also determine your self in middle school. Without a doubt middle school is hard; but then again, “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stringer.”
One-mayor issue teens or “pre”-teens face while in middle school is peer-pressure. In simpler words; trying to fit in. I would be lying if I told you fitting in isn’t everything, because everybody wants to be “somebody” in middle school. I guess after doing this middle school thing for two years; I can honestly say its better for somebody to hate you for who you really are, then to be hated by a persona that you put on.
Another thing kids face in middle school is alcohol. Its found everywhere, and you can have access of it easily. Lets just note that people who need alcohol to have fun…yeah…um…LOSERS. If you need alcohol to have fun at a party or anywhere you’re a really boring person. (Well, if you’re under 17).
Another mayor problem is parents. They will literally suffocate you these three years. Twelve, thirteen and fourteen year-olds will naturally want to do whatever they want. For example: parting going out with friends, boyfriends/girlfriends etc. Your parents may seem perfect but BEILIVE ME… they did the exact same things when they were our age (maybe even worse). The moral of the story: they don’t want us to make the same mistakes they did.
And last but not least, being attractive to the opposite sex. It’s different. You don’t know what to say; or what there saying means and you can’t get them out of your head… yeah, ”young love”. I’m not going to make a list of my relationship advice; because I that could literally go on for five hours. Simply: be happy with yourself first and don’t rely on somebody else to make you happy.
I’ve learned so much these last years, and I’ve had so many first. I’ve lost myself and found myself. I’ve been in and out of love. And most importantly I’ve came to love my group of friends; were thirteen girls who fight and argue (of course I’m the peace maker) but at the end of the day we love each other and know who we are. Basically just be true to yourself and never change for anyone.
